Thai "WAI"

The Thai greeting ไหว้, wâi

              The word often spoken with the wai as a greeting or farewell is  sàwàtdi As well as being a greeting, a wai is  a method of showing respect in different degrees.                                                                                        

             "WAI"  for  Praying to the Buddha ,Greeting,Thank you, saying good bye ,sorry and apologize. We don't 'Wai' to everyone. Thai people pay respect to someone who is older or as senior that we respect them.

              As a foreigner "wai" to important people,senior in working places and Thai family as soon as possible. If someone "wai" you first, then received their "wai"  just "wai" them back.

Thai Consonants 

 there are 44 consonants in Thai language.
The consonants are devided into 3 classes

1. Middle Class consonants ( 9 consonants )

The nature is middle tone with unvoiced sound ( no air released )

ก. ไก่        /gor gài/        

จ. จาน     /jor jaan/

ด. เด็ก      /dor dèk/

ฎ. ชฎา     /dor chá-daa/

ต. เต่า       /dtor dtào/

ฏ. ปฏัก    /dtor bpà-dtàk/

บ. ใบไม้   /bor bai-mái/

ป. ปลา     /bpor bplaa/

อ. อ่าง     /or àang/

2. High Class Consonants  (11 consonants)

The nature  is rising tone with voiced sound (have air release) and rising tone 

ข. ไข่        /kŏr kài/        

ฃ. ขวด      /kŏr kùat/ (not used anymore)

ฉ. ฉิ่ง        /chŏr chìng/

ถ. ถุง        /tŏr tŭng/

ฐ. ฐาน       /tŏr tăan/

ฝ. ฝา        /fŏr făa/

ส. เสือ      /sŏr sŭa/

ษ. ฤาษี     /sŏr ruu-sĭi/

3. Low Class Consonants

Low Class Paired (14 consonants ) - sound of the paired consonants have the same sound as the high consonants but pronounced as middle tone ( high consonants pronounced as rising tone)

"TENSE" 

 Past Tense
Thai languages are no past tense. But we add a time word to indicate that.

 Future Tense

  Future tenses as same as past tense. We use the word "ja (จะ)" (will or shall) + verb, and with or without a period of time word to indicate that we are referring to the future...

Present Continuous Tense
We use the word "gam-lang (กำลัง)" (v + ing) in front of verb in sentence.

Basic Structure ( Word Order )
